Brandi Carlile is a native of Ravensdale, Washington, who began singing in public when she was eight, was composing songs by the age of 15, and at 16 worked as a backup vocalist for an Elvis impersonator. Her recording career started when Columbia Records signed her in 2004. She self-released her first album in 2005, and Columbia re-released it in 2006, when it garnered enthusiastic, positive reviews. One critic wrote:
". . . her music is ... rich, warm, and seductive, familiar in its form and sound, yet sounding fresh, even original . . .”
Carlile is comfortable in multiple genres including classic rock, Americana, alternative country, and folk rock. Over the course of her career, she has won two Emmys and 11 Grammys, and was nominated for an Oscar. Time Magazine named her one of its “Women of the Year” in 2026. She has now released eight studio albums, dropping the latest, “Returning to Myself,” in 2025.
She also founded The Highwomen, an all-female quartet, in 2019, together with Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires. Their self-titled debut album dropped in 2019 to critical and commercial acclaim, and in 2021, the track “Crowded Table” won a Grammy for Best Country Song.
