The Music Box will welcome the Mexican Slum Rats, Clarion, Floats, and Blossom for a night of music. The Slum Rats are an emo-fusion five-piece band based in Granada Hills, California. California inspires the alternative and surf punk quartet: its skateparks, coastal highways, diverse neighborhoods, and suburban sprawl. The band’s name honors their Mexican-American background, the group currently comprises Andy Godinez, Brock McHenry, Benjamin Schlesinger, and Kevin Villalba, who met in middle school.
The Clarion trio has put their own interpretation on post punk, rock, and shoegaze. The latter is a subgenre of indie rock known for obscured vocals, eerie soundscapes, and use of distortion and guitar effects that result in a “wall of sound.” Clarion uses loud amplifiers to create these effects.
Floats is a surf-punk band based in San Antonio, Texas, and Blossom is a four-piece band from San Diego who are described as a shoegaze outfit with alternative rock touches that gives them a unique sound which one source describes as comprising:
“. . . syrupy vocals, fuzzed-out guitars, and an expansive soundscape . . .”
Blossom are described as rising stars in shoegaze, along with Clarion.
The concert is set for March 19 at the Music Box at 1337 India Street. Shows such as this can benefit from the advertisements created by organizers using poster printing methods.
