University selects designer for stadium

San Diego State University (SDSU) recently announced it has chosen an architect for the stadium it has proposed, to be located in Mission Valley

SDSU is planning to redevelop the San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) Stadium's current site, adding residential and commercial space, a park, and a new home for the SDSU football team, the Aztecs. The school would also locate a satellite campus in the valley.

The new stadium would hold 35,000 spectators, and is to be a multi-use facility. The university has chosen Gensler as its preferred architect, and the plan was approved by the voters of San Diego last year. Projects of this size and scope are of general interest, so officials could use brochure printing to create materials to make available to interested residents.

Gensler, which is a design, architecture, and planning firm, boasts 48 offices around the world, and has over 6,000 professionals to serve over 3,500 clients that span every sector. Gensler's designers want to create play, work, and living spaces that are resilient and inspiring.

At present, SDSU is negotiating with the city to buy the land on which the stadium is located, which is a parcel comprising 132 acres. The talks are in the early stages, but if the transaction is finalized, the university should break ground early in 2020, with a goal of finishing the project before the 2022 college football season starts.
