A psychedelic alternative-rank band from Canada is coming to San Diego’s downtown.
Meltt formed in 2014 in Vancouver, British Columbia, with current lineup Ian Winkler, James Porter, James Turner, and Christoper Smith. Currently, they are signed with Nettwork Music Group and have released one EP and two studio albums. Since 2022, they have made extensive tours, most of them in North America, and have also appeared in festivals including several times at SXSW, and the Treefort Music Festival.
The founders – Porter, Turner, and Smith – started out when they played in a cover band in high school. They graduated in 2014, began writing original material, then recorded and self-released an independent EP. They released their first official effort, an EP entitled “Visions,” in 2017. Ian Winkler joined in 2018, completing the current lineup.
Their music has been described as that of an alternative-rock group that has detail-oriented production values, colorful instrumentation, loves heavy riffs, and constructs complex songs. Their process usually involves each member writing a demo, which they refine as a group. They cite Radiohead, Tame Impala, and Washed Out among their primary influences.
The themes they touch on often deal with difficult subjects such as the addiction to technology, social media anxiety, nature, grief, introspection, death, and rebirth. These issues are featured heavily on “Eternal Embers,” their 2023 album.
Meltt will be at the Quartyard in downtown San Diego on Wednesday, September 16. Poster printing can be used by organizers to promote events like this.
