Blue collar comedy in downtown San Diego

A stand-up comedian who finds humor in his blue-collar background is on the way to San Diego.

Dustin “Dusty” Slay was born in Opelika, Alabama, where he and his family lived in a trailer park. His comedic style is based on his experiences as a blue-collar worker, and his own history, which includes the fact his parents divorced when he was a toddler.

His first job was selling pesticides, but in 2004, he relocated to Charleston in South Carolina, where he joined the local improv comedy community, then turned to stand-up. He struggled at first, but broke through in 2008. He spent some time in New York City, then relocated again in 2014, this time to Nashville. Variety named Slay in 2019 as one of the “10 Comics to Watch”.

His comedy routine takes audiences through his childhood spent in a trailer, his various jobs, and describes his occasional overindulgence. He avoids topics like politics, religion, and race, leaving controversial subjects to others.

Slay has appeared in TV shows including “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC, and “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” He also appears regularly on the radio, including programs on Pandora, Sirius SM, and “The Bob and Tom Radio Show.”

Dusty Slay: The Neighborhood Guy will be at the Balboa Theatre on October 17. When they book artists like this, organizers can support them by using poster printing to create advertisements for them.
