An internet celebrity who began with one channel and now has numerous enterprises running is coming to San Diego.
MrBallen is a storyteller, and at the beginning of each segment, he reminds audiences they are about to hear tales of the “strange, dark, and mysterious.” Most of the stories he shares are discovered by a team led by Evan Allen, his sister. She was an investigative reporter and Pulitzer Prize winner who wrote for the Boston Globe. She verifies the stories by checking sources, including newspaper articles, case files, and court transcripts.
MrBallen is John B. Allen, who got his stage name when Instagram ran his name together, creating “johnballen.” A former Navy SEAL, he says the casual address fits his laid-back persona, as he always appears on screen in a flannel shirt and backwards baseball cap, ready to sit down and tell a story.
His stories tend to be odd rather than grisly. He is hosts of “Mrballen’s Medical Mysteries,” and Ballen Studios produces other properties including “Run, Fool!,” “Bedtime Stories,” and “Wartime Stories,” all of which deal with the paranormal. Also a philanthropist, his foundation has donated millions to those impacted by violent crimes.
He will be at the Balboa Theatre in Downtown San Diego on Sunday, June 28, beginning at 7:00 pm. Brochure printing companies can create programs for this sort of event, as audiences like to learn about performers.
