What's Happening in San Diego - Downtown, CA…

Stavros Halkias brings laughs to downtown San Diego

A stand-up comedian, podcaster, actor, and writer will be appearing in Downtown San Diego soon.

Stavros Halkias is a native of Baltimore, Maryland, where he went to high school at the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, and then attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). While there, he interned at Marc Steiner’s Center for Emerging Media. It was also while he was at UMBC that he began his career in comedy, hosting a comedy showcase monthly. He performed in the great Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland area, and was chosen as Baltimore’s New Comedian of the Year in 2012.

Halkias relocated to New York City where he made numerous guest appearances on podcasts and radio broadcasts. He has performed on Comedy Central and IFC among other outlets, and performed live at venues such as the New York Comedy Festival. He has opened for stars like Robert Kelly, Tom Papa, and Wham City. He may be best known for his style of comedy, in which he engages directly with audience members, then goes on to use their experiences as a basis for his riffs. A review says:

“He has a humorous and irreverent style . . . His comedic approach tends to be unique and can resonate with a diverse audience.”

Stavros Halkias will be at the San Diego Civic Theater in the city’s downtown on March 8. Audiences enjoy learning about performers, so organizers will often use brochure printing to create programs for people attending the show.
