Special fundraiser set for San Diego monument

A fundraiser is on the schedule to help support one of San Diego’s most iconic attractions.

“Cabrillo for the Stars” is an annual event that helps support the Cabrillo National Monument. The monument is located at the end of Point Loma, the spit of land separating San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The restored Old Point Loma Lighthouse is one of several features of the park, named for Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, who was the first European to explore the West Coast. He arrived in San Diego in 1542, where he found what he described as “a very good enclosed port.” Today, that port is San Diego Bay.

The celebration is held annual in order to raise funds to maintain the park, the lighthouse, and the interpretive services offered. This year, the celebration will be virtual and can be enjoyed from home. The celebration is 30 minutes long and highlights the Cabrillo Monument, including its programs, and the people who bring them to life. Stories, a beautiful visual presentation, and a silent auction are part of the fun. Local restaurants are partnering with the monument, and people who join the video event are encouraged to order take-out for the occasion.

“Cabrillo for the Stars” is scheduled for May 22, beginning at 7.00 pm. Organizers of events like this can create pamphlets to mail to attendees in advance of the celebration by working with brochure printing experts.
