Blue Bottle Coffee, a specialty coffee roaster based in Oakland, recently announced that it plans to open two locations in San Diego – one in Carmel Valley and the second downtown.
The Carmel Valley store will open first, in the mixed-use project known as One Paseo. Meanwhile, the second will open in Tower 180, an office tower in the city’s downtown.
Blue Bottle was founded in 2002, and takes pride on paying attention to detail, especially with regard to roasting its coffee beans and preparing drinks. In order to maintain its quality, the Carmel Valley location will serve as a hub for training new baristas from around the region to meet the company’s standards.
Blue Bottle cafes are already operating in the San Francisco area, Miami, Boston, Washington, D.C., New York, and Los Angeles; there are also locations in Japan. It appears that the first San Diego store will fit in with the other One Paseo tenants. These include Salt & Straw, a specialty ice cream company; and the Shake Shack. When new businesses such as this open, they could distribute Promotional Products to their first customers to build brand recognition.
Both Blue Bottle stores will serve specialty coffee drinks, pastries, and merchandise. They will also conduct classes guests can attend to learn about brewing techniques, and the types of coffee.
Blue Bottle plans to open in Carmel Valley in Spring 2019, and downtown later in the year.
