What's Happening in San Diego - Downtown, CA…

Locals race for autism

San Diego residents can get their hearts pumping while supporting a good cause.

The National Foundation for Autism Research is hosting its 11th annual San Diego Race for Autism, which will feature a 5K walk and run along with a one-mile family walk.

The event has a hero theme and participants are invited to wear a superhero or character costume. Fundraising efforts will go to help local autism and educational programs and services.

The race route will take participants on a scenic path through Balboa Park. Medals will be given to the top three male and females in each age group.

After the race, participants can go to the Resource Fair, where there will be a wide variety of organizations to visit. Refreshments, kids’ activities, and music will also be available.

Registration costs $38 for adults, $33 for youth, and $28 for kids under 12. On race day, the price will go up $2. Those who want chip timing can pay an additional $3. Registration includes a T-shirt and a medal.

With large events such as this, a banner printing service is often used to create large welcome signs. Sponsors’ logos are sometimes included on the banners.

Participants can lace up their running shoes on March 21. Race day registration begins at 6:45 am and the 5K starts at 7:45 am. The one-mile family walk will take place at 8:30 am.
