FedEx is expanding, which is likely to be good news for San Diego job seekers.
According to an April 11, 2015 news item, the delivery giant is expanding its FedEx Ground operation in a $3bn nationwide effort, and is building a new facility in Oceanside as part of the plan. The new location will bring several hundred jobs with it.
Officials of FedEx were in Oceanside for the groundbreaking on April 10, the culmination of two years of planning and effort. According to FedEx vice president John Hiltz, the system is automated, and will move a great number of packages more quickly and smoothly through the system. Construction is expected to be completed by 2017.
Hiltz noted that FedEx’s three current San Diego locations are filled to capacity. He expects the Oceanside location to open with approximately 200 employees. FedEx did not say how many construction jobs might be created at the project. Hiltz expected the building to be finished fairly quickly, but then there will be another year’s work on the inside.
Hiltz said FedEx chose Oceanside because it has easy access to the I-5 freeway, and is close to Los Angeles, which is about 90 miles to the north. He also noted there is a large pool of potential employees in northern San Diego County.
FedEx officials might consider working with a poster printing company on Posters advertising the new location and inviting people to apply for work.Get a Free Quote for Posters
