The administrator, Leslea Meyerhoff, also gave information on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' decision to choose Manson Construction to take on the project. The Seattle-based business focuses on dredging and offshore construction. Meyerhoff went on to say:
“Conceptually, right now, [project officials are] talking about mobilization of dredge equipment, pipeline segments, etc., as early as about three weeks from now. They’re talking, generally, right after Thanksgiving, bringing the first pieces of equipment to the city beach.”
The process of moving the approximately 250,000 cubic yards worth of sand will take about 50 days. The contractors will be working on a 24-hour schedule, all week, excavating sand from a location near Oceanside. They will also work 12 hours a day, every day, to place the sand and prepare the shore equipment.
Meyerhoff also mentioned how post-construction removal is expected to take place early next year. The city intends to keep up with its outreach strategy, which will include announcements that will be published using social media, press releases, and public notice boards. Meyerhoff also addressed Mayor Knoblock's concerns about putting sand down later to reduce damage from winter waves.
