San Clemente hosts Dia de Los Muertos celebration

Dia de Los Muertos is being celebrated in San Clemente this weekend.

With a theme of Illuminating the Path Home, the event will feature vendors, altars, entertainment, art contests, activities, food, and a beer garden. A Catrina contest – with Catrina being the recurring skeletal figure synonymous with Dia de Los Muertos – has a youth and adult category, with a people’s choice voting set for the day of the festival.

There’s also an art contest, with categories that include elementary, middle, and high school, as well as an adult category.

A family-friendly community celebration underpins Dia de Los Muertos, as participants remember their loved ones who have passed as part of the Mexican holiday. The sponsors of the event include Taqueria Luna, Los Molinas Beer Co., Rod’s Tree Service, Inc., and All Swell Surf.

The community altar display will also be available for participants at Max Berg Plaza Park beginning in late October, with the possibility of photos for both family members and pets accepted.

Among the live entertainment part of the festival is DJ Angel, a Catrina Showcase, Raices Ballet Folklorico, Viva Cristo Rey, Orange County Public Library Story Time, and Trio de Tres. Holiday festivals like this may choose to use Promotional Products for free giveaways, raffles, or vendor prizes.

The Dia de Los Muertos celebration is happening this Saturday, November 1 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Max Berg Plaza Park at 1100 Calle Puente in San Clemente.
