San Clemente to host lifeguard certification course

The Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguard training course is set to take place in San Clemente this fall.

Hosted by Happy Swimmers, this course is suited for lifeguards who will be watching shallow pools of no more than five feet deep. Participants must be already capable of treading water for two minutes, swimming for 100 yards, and completing a 50-second test.

Participants can complete the test by swimming 20 yards with the breaststroke or front crawl, diving to pick up a 10lb object at the bottom of the pool, swimming or walking another 20 yards, and then exiting the pool without the aid of steps or a ladder.

All San Clemente locals who attend the course must participate fully in every session and get at least an 80% score on the final written exam to receive certification. Course organizers typically use professional printing services to create Copies of exams for students to complete.

Those who are interested in taking part can register online for $244 per individual. Tickets sales will end on Saturday, November 7. The minimum age to register is 15 years old and up.

The Shallow Water Lifeguard training event is scheduled to occur at 110 Avenida La Pata on Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15, from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm on both days.
