San Clemente plans pair of Memorial Day events

San Clemente will observe Memorial Day at two venues this year.

The morning event will be the one hosted by the City of San Clemente. Mayor Tim Brown will give the welcome address and Lieutenant Mike Peters, San Clemente Chief of Police Services, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance accompanied by the Marine Corps Color Guard. Wounded Warrior Battalion West, Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Mount from the United States Marine Corps will be the military keynote speaker.

Music will be provided by recording artists John Lindahl and Tim Kepler, along with schoolchildren from Our Savior’s Lutheran School.

Memorial Day will also be observed in the afternoon. The service will be honoring all military branches. Guest speakers will be Brigadier General Michael Borgschulte, USMC and Lt. Col. Patrick B. Byrne, USMC. Navy Flying Ace from WW ll, Fred Dungan, will receive special recognition. Pete Jacob & the Wartime Radio Singers will provide the music.

Veterans who own local Print shops may wish to do some flyer printing to get the word out about these events.

The morning Memorial Day Observance will be Monday, May 28 from 11:00 am until noon at San Clemente Community Center, 100 N. Calle Seville. The afternoon service will be at Park Semper Fi from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at 150 N. Alameda Lane.
