Next month, Joanne Schwartz, an amateur mycologist, will be holding a lecture on wild mushrooms called ‘Fun with Fungi’. A couple of days later, fungus enthusiasts can attend a Fun Finding Fungi Mushroom Walk.
Schwartz will be discussing finding and identifying Southern California fungi and what their role is in nature, and telling tales of Fungal Folklore. Ms. Schwartz will also come with her mushroom hunting gear, her identification resources, and real mushrooms if they are available.
The expert will also be conducting a Fun Finding Fungi Mushroom Walk a few days later. She will focus on how to find, identify, and photograph the little beauties. San Clemente participants are invited to bring cameras and tripods to get good shots. There may be a wide range of species, especially if it rains before the walk, and these will make interesting subjects for Calendars or future poster printing.
The Fun with Fungi lecture will be January 17, 2017 at the Guest House from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo, 28811 Ortega Hwy, San Juan Capistrano. The event will be free, but an RSVP is requested.
The walk will be January 21 from 9:00 pm to 12:00 pm at the Richard and Donna O’Neill Conservancy in the Reserves at Rancho Mission Viejo. RSVP is required.
