Meyerhoff, the founder of Summit Environmental, will be responsible for overseeing coastal management projects and approving activities, among other duties. She mentioned how San Clemente stands as a pioneer among cities along the coastline in safeguarding its shoreline, citing the notable advancements in the San Clemente Shoreline Protection Project.
The establishment of this position stemmed from an initiative led by a council subcommittee, consisting of Councilmembers Mark Enmeier and Victor Cabral. They instructed the staff to incorporate this role into the city's 2023-2024 budget while establishing a competitive salary range. While the city's official salary schedule outlines a range of $113,921.60 to $138,486.40 per annum, it's important to note, as confirmed by City Clerk Laura Campagnolo, that Meyerhoff is not considered an employee of the city. After sealing the appointment, Meyerhoff said:
“I’m very happy to be able to continue in that capacity, and to expand it a little bit to help meet some of the goals and objectives of the city with respect to sand and sand retention. I’m very pleased to be here.”
Meyerhoff possesses both degrees in fields connected to environmental studies and urban planning. She previously served at the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association as its director.
