The City of San Clemente is getting ready for its 90th birthday with a commemorative day- San Clemente Day, coming at the end of February.
City facilities will be offering discounts on its admission fees; for example, the Ole Hanson Beach Club will be having a free swim and an open house.
Historic Trolley Tours will be conducted throughout the city. Historians will be sharing stories of our city’s founding father, Ole Hanson, and his efforts to organize the city back in 1928.
In the 1920s, developers were envisioning this area a Spanish Village by the Sea. It was one of the first communities to be built from a master plan. Hanson laid out a plan that included a clubhouse, restaurants, public parks, a pool and fishing pier – with white-walled, red-brick buildings of Spanish Colonial architecture.
The most well-known building was and still is Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, originally the home of Ole Hanson, which was completed in 1928. It was then lost to the bank in the Great Depression, went into neglect, and was rescued just a few years ago by local activists. Today, the stately villa can be found on the city’s Brochures and visitors’ guides.
San Clemente’s 90th Anniversary Celebration will be February 24 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm at Ole Hanson Beach Club, 105 W. Avenida Pico, San Clemente, and various other places around town.
