San Clemente celebrates whales for two weekends

Dana Point will be holding is annual Festival of Whales for two weekends in March.

The festivities will start with a Whale of a Sand Sculpting competition on Baby Beach at 1:00 pm Saturday March 7th. Festival of Whales Parade will begin at 10:00 am in the harbor. Also starting at that time will be a street fair, and the Sailing and Stand-up Paddling Clinic. The Harbor walkway will feature antiques and classic boats.

At noon Captain Dave’s Under Sea Eco Carnival and a Whale of a Pizza Party will be held on Baby Beach.

Sunday will have a marine mammal lecture, Ocean Awareness Day, a diamond dig, and a Whale of a BBQ. There will be a walking tour, music series, and a Kids Fishing Clinic.

The following Saturday, March 14th the event will begin with a Cardboard Classic Dinghy Dash and Expo and a BBQ both at Baby Beach, and a beach cleanup at Doheny State Beach. British Invasion will be on the Harbor walkway. There will be Art in the Park and the 9th Annual Clam Chowder Cook-off at 11 am in Baby Beach Park.

On Sunday, March 15th most activities will be repeated along with a Whale of a Concert on the water and a Concert BBQ afterward.

Whale watching is available from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. Pictures taken of whales at events such as this often go to Stationery printers to be included in yearly Calendars.
