San Clemente celebrates tall ships with festival

September means time for the annual Tall Ships Festival. A fleet of tall ships will again enter the harbor to begin three days of cannon battle re-creations, mermaid encounters, ship tours and pirate adventures.

The Parade of Sails will allow visitors to board the tall ships and experience sights and sounds including the cannon firing as the ships sail along the shoreline. San Clemente guests will be getting some great shots good enough for poster printing.

The next couple of days will be filled with the Mermaid Breakfast. Along with enjoying pancakes, guests will meet mermaids, watch them perform underwater and make a mermaid craft.

The festival will have A Sailor’s Life tours, crafts, touch tanks and exhibits. Sea Lab will hold squid dissection sessions, and the fishing pier will offer a cannon demonstration. Wannabe pirates will be enrolling in Cap’n Jack’s Pirate School and the Surf Science Lab will feature three Mermaid Swim Shows. Pilgrim will have meet-and-greets with historical people, a crew climbing demo, and a navy historical show. The Samueli Center will have three mermaid story times.

Guests can board the armada of tall ships and experience two mock cannon battles daily.

Tall Ship Festival will be September 7th from 4 pm until 9 through September the 9th from 10 am until 4 pm daily at Dana Point Harbor.
