The Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo will be holding Pre-Christmas outdoor events over the next few days.
The first will be a Christmas Bird Count. Over 80 species of native birds have been detected over the last few years. San Clemente birders may bring their own field guides and binoculars if they have them, but the preserve will have some to borrow.
The venue will be along at private road and guests will view, listen and count the birds as they drive from site to site. The event is geared to bird-watchers ages 10 and older. Those interested in attending must register before December 19.
The next evening will be a Welcome Winter Moon Hike. The light of the winter moon will light the way as hikers enjoy the nocturnal and seasonal changes. The grasslands and woods are usually quiet except for the crunching leaves as the hikers walk along the trail. Guides will relate stories of moon lore and night ecology. The hike is recommended for ages eight years and older. Registration by December 20 is required.
Pictures taken at either of these events could go to Stationery printers to be made into Calendars or personal stationery.
The Christmas Bird Count will take place December 20 from 8:00 am until 11:00 am at the Richard and Donna O-Neill Conservancy, 28811 Ortega Highway, Juan Capistrano.
Welcome Winter Moon Hike will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on December 21 at the Conservancy.
