San Clement hosts annual Earth Day cleanup event

Earth Day is just around the corner and to celebrate, San Clemente preparing for its annual Cleanup and Educational Fair.

The cleanup event at the beach also serves as an opportunity to learn about the city’s environmental programs and other services, including free giveaways.

There will also be displays of city vehicles and equipment, informational booths, and games and activities for children. In addition, people who pre-register and attend the beach cleanup will be eligible for a free burrito from Fisherman’s Restaurant. Ricky Raindrop, a mascot in Orange County who promotes water-related education to children, will also make a special appearance.

Other accessible Earth Day activities for children that can be performed around the house or the local community include going on scavenger hunts, picking up trash at a local playground, making a homemade birdfeeder, and gardening.

Each year, the City of Clemente’s Environmental Division, along with the Watershed Task Force, put on the cleanup event. The Earth Day celebrations include educational opportunities on reducing litter and how keeping city water services clean helps reduce waste in the ocean.
