The beach is open again now that the dirt road that goes to this surfing area not far from San Clemente has been fixed. It took the city two months to finish repairing it.
Dan Brady, a surfer who comes here from Irvine, commented:
“It's not just about surfing; it’s an overall surf culture. Also, it's about the quality of surf and waves here. There isn’t any other spot like this nearby without having to travel far distances which is why people were so sad when it disappeared for such a long time."
Several spots in this area have been lost due to erosion that keeps reducing the quantity of sand and making the dirt road available. Poster printing can be used to tell people about blocked-off roads.
Winter storms did not help. The damage was made worse because of some piping put in by the military to attempt to save a fairy shrimp vernal pool on top of the cliff, which caused storm water to rush down the pipes. The powerful winter swells hit the wet road, leading to it falling apart and stopping people from getting through it.
Over the past couple of months, surfers like Brady used e-bikes to get there or find a parking space in a lot that can only hold 30 cars. However, these spots are quite rare and it takes quite some time to get there from the beach. Many people waited hours just to get one of those spots, and are delighted to get back to normal.
