A team of surfers from the San Clemente Board Riders Club has taken home the win in the 2022 U.S Board Riders National Championship held at Lowers.
The event is operated in a team style, with the team from San Clemente made up of the area’s biggest names in surfing. The surfers put forward for almost all heats had experienced some form of international success. Professional teams often wear tracksuits with their logo designs printed on them.
Tanner and Pat Gudauskas competed in the Over 30s, division while Nate Yeomans stepped up for the Over 40s competition. Other veterans who represented San Clemente include Dino Andino, Matt Archbold, and Jimmy Hogan. Anybody who follows the sport would recognize that these are all hall-of-fame contenders. The younger generation was represented by rising stars such as Cole Houshmand and Kevin Schulz.
Frankie D’Andrea, the co-president of San Clemente’s Board Riders Club, spoke to the press to say:
“We had an absolutely amazing time as the host club for the first USBRC National Championship. To win the whole thing was a dream come true, and I know I speak for our entire club when I say that we’re stoked on the whole deal.”
The San Clemente Board Riders Club came out on top in five out of seven heats on the last day of the competition. They accumulated a total tally of 243 points, which was enough to put them out of reach of second-placed Santa Cruz Board Riders with 197.
