Local breweries win gold

Several breweries based in San Clemente were honored for their stellar brews at the World Beer Cup recently.

Pizza Port, Delahunt, and Lost Winds Brewing Company all took prizes home with them. Lost Winds won the gold award for its Beach Hoppin’ Hoppy Pale Ale in the Australia-Style Pale Ales category. The Coffee Stout or Porter category was won by the Dusk til Dawn brew made by Pizza Port San Clemente, while Delahunt took the bronze in the American-Style Cream Ale with De La Sol.

The World Beer Cup ranks as one of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions. It recognizes the best brews in more than 100 categories and this year’s edition was held in Minneapolis. The success of San Clemente’s breweries is another chapter in the story of a brewing community that is growing fast. Breweries often have their own logo designs displayed on the bottles.

The Delahunt Brewing Company was started by Kyle Boruff and Todd Delahunt in 2020. Delahunt stated that he tries to send in the best samples by category, while Brandon Winneker from Lost Winds Brewery said that they brew beers people will like first and foremost, then decide which category they best fit into.

Over 2,000 breweries from across the county submitted samples for this year’s World Beer Cup, which took place last month.
