Lifeguard training in San Clemente

Happy Swimmers are set to host a two-day training program for shallow water lifeguards to work in swimming pools of maximum depth of five feet.

The Shallow Water Lifeguarding Course is a blended learning course that will provide learners in San Clemente with the knowledge and skills required to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS arrives.

Participants should be at least 15 years of age, be able to swim 100 yards non-stop while demonstrating rhythmic breathing and breath control, tread water for two minutes only using their legs and be able to complete a timed retrieval event within 50 seconds.

Certificates to be issued will be American Red Cross Certificate for Shallow Water Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR and AED. Participants are expected to demonstrate competency in all required skills, pass a final skill scenario, attend the entire course and participate actively in all class sessions, and successfully pass final written exams with a minimum of 80%. Trainers will be intent on ensuring as many learners as possible pass the course. They have promised to spend extra hours to help learners become confident and competent enough to save lives.

The two-day training course will cost $244 and will take place on November 14 and November 15 at the Happy Swimmer Host, San Clemente, California.
