Local beach combers can enjoy the sun, get wet, and support a worthy cause all at the same time by attending the upcoming San Clemente Ocean Festival.
Billed as ‘The Greatest Show on Surf’, this festival will offer a variety of surf and athletic events for the whole family. Since 1993, this non-profit event has benefited local lifeguard and junior aquatic programs, as well as local boys and girls Clubs and Meals-on wheels.
Lifeguards will host pancake breakfasts on both mornings of the two-day event. On the first day, there will be a Dolphin Dash and Kids’ Beach Run, as well as the Orange County Life Guard Games and free bodysurfing clinics. The Youth Pavilion will feature crafts, face painting, games, jujitsu demonstrations and several musical performances. There will also be a Beach Party with the ‘World Tour-Legends of Rock’.
The second day will feature the 22nd Annual Classic Woody Car Exhibit, the Great Rubber Duck Race, and competitions in such disciplines as surfing and sand sculpting. There will also be a 5k Beach Run, a biathlon, a Splash and Dash and much more for attendees to try their hands at. It promises to be a great venue for taking water-themed photos for poster printing later.
The festival will be held July 19-20 at the San Clemente Pier, starting at 6:30 am.
