Unusual concert scheduled for Rohnert Park

A concert featuring two musical styles is scheduled for Rohnert Park.

Francesco Lecce-Chong will be the conductor of the Visions of Hope concert, featuring the group Mariachi Champaña Nevín. The Mariachi group will perform a new work commissioned from Mexican composer Enrico Chapela Barba, who has been invited in recent years to create works for such organizations as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Orquestra Sinfônica de São Paulo.

The new composition memorializes the Bracero Immigration Program, which was in effect from 1942 until 1964. The program brought workers from Mexico to the United States to replace American workers who had gone to join the fighting during World War II.

Mariachi Champaña Nevín champions “classical mariachi music,” and is considered one of the leading groups playing this combination. The ensemble accepts the principles of both European classical music, and the traditional Mariachi music of Mexico. Led by Jeff Nevin, who plays trumpet as well as composing, the group has played many of his original works, including “Pasión Mexicana,” the first Concerto for Mariachi and Orchestra ever written.

Two other classical pieces are on the program: the “Fountains of Rome” and the “Pines of Rome” by Ottorino Resphigi.

There are three dates to hear this concert—July 11 at 7.30 pm, July 12 at 3.00 pm, and July 13 at 7.30 pm. Brochure printing can be used to create attractive programs for events like this.
