Prolific rock group headlines Rohnert Park concert

Rohnert Park’s Graton Resort and Casino will host the gospel-influenced rock group Collective Soul this January.

As a band that wears its many 80s rock influences on its sleeve, ranging from The Police to INXS and others, Collective Soul comprises of a five-person ensemble with the classic rock instrumentation.

Drummer Johnny Rabb, lead vocalist and guitarist Ed Roland, lead guitarist Jesse Triplett and rhythm guitarist Dean Roland make up the group, with many members contributing to background vocals on various tracks.

According to Roland, in a recent interview, his upbringing brought a unique perspective to approaching rock music, moving from the piano in high school band to the guitar.

With three decades under their belt, Collective Soul’s career highlights include performing at Woodstock, sharing the stage with the likes of Van Halen and Aerosmith, and creating music with Elton John.

A focus on finding unique melodies and intriguing lyrics has always guided Collective Souls over the years, rather than tracing trends, Roland said.

Their latest release is a double album called Here to Eternity, recorded at the Palm Springs estate of Elvis Presley.

Collective Soul is performing on January 31 at 7 pm at the Graton Resort and Casino at 288 Golf Drive West in Rohnert Park.
