Gaming tournament smashes into Rohnert Park

The Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library is hosting a Smash Brothers Tournament on the Nintendo Switch 2 this November.

With no sign-up needed, the free event is for those under 18 years of age only. In addition, participants are allowed to bring their own equipment, including consoles and controllers.

Though there is currently no Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive Smash Bros. game, the system is backward compatible with Switch 1 games, including the best-selling Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

With 36.55 million units sold, Smash Bros. Ultimate is the third best-selling video game for the Switch 1, surpassed only by Animal Crossing: New Horizons at 48.19 million and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at 68.86 million.

Originally released back in December of 2018, Smash Ultimate has since received a number of updates in the form of downloadable content. That includes even more characters to add to its already massive roster. Even characters from franchises outside of Nintendo, such as Kazuya from Tekken and Sora from Kingdom Hearts, are now playable in the game.

Gaming tournaments like this may choose to use poster printing to spread the word in the community at schools and event bulletins.

The Nintendo Switch 2: Smash Brothers Tournament is happening on Thursday, November 13 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm in the meeting room of the Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library at 6250 Lynne Conde Way.
