A joint effort by communities from Sonoma and Marin counties plans to collect resources and spread knowledge about Alzheimer's care and support.
This walk is a big part of a countrywide effort from the Alzheimer’s Association. The Walk to End Alzheimer's has one main aim, which is helping the Alzheimer’s Association in its mission to get rid of Alzheimer's disease. They do this by pushing forward with research, making care and support better, and encouraging brain health.
The event starts with an opening ceremony, where participants will hear tales from people touched by Alzheimer's, news about progress in research, and information on how money collected impacts the cause. Following the opening ceremony, individuals set off on a walk that spans from 1 to 3 miles. This stroll is intended to be all-encompassing for people of varying ages and fitness abilities. Printing services can be used to create markers for a course.
To make sure everyone is involved and helped, different activities are arranged. A highlight of the event, known as The Promise Garden Ceremony, has participants holding flowers of different colors to show their link with the disease. Flowers in blue stand for those living with Alzheimer's or dementia, purple for individuals who have lost someone due to this illness; yellow signifies a caregiver and orange represents an advocate/supporter.
The Sonoma-Marin Walk to End Alzheimer's is planned for October 5th at the Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park.
