Rohnert Park gets master class for gardening

Green-thumbed residents of Rohnert Park are getting ready for the turn of the seasons.

For some, the slow transition from autumn to winter is a bad time as they cross off the remaining summer days from their Calendars. To address this, the Master Gardeners of Sonoma County are offering a workshop called Landscape Design for Year-Round Color.

The group of volunteers has been trained and certified by the University of California in order to provide the best science-based information on plants to help support gardeners across Sonoma County. They give workshops and classes year-round, covering topics such as weed and pest control, growing vegetables, fruits, and berries, and home composting. Many of their workshops - including this one - are free to the public.

This lesson will be taught by Linda King, who will cover two separate topics: color and texture. Linda will go over a number of different types of leaves and the ways they change with the seasons. By combining a variety of different colors and textures, gardeners can create a wide variety of patterns that will change in interesting ways throughout the season. King will give a number of examples and also teach attendees how to make their own patterns.

Landscape Design for Year-Round Color will be held on September 10 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Rohnert Park Library, located at 6250 Lynne Conde Way. Admission is free to the public. Anyone interested in attending should contact either the Master Gardeners or the library directly.
