Music lovers in Rohnert Park are looking forward to a unique performance on their doorstep.
Santa Rosa Symphony Guitar and Flute Duet combines two very different instruments together to explore the history and development of Western music.
Two notable musicians will be together on stage for this event: Eric Cabalo is a multi-award winning classical guitarist who has a Master’s degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, while Jane Shelly has over 25 years of experience as a flautist and currently serves as the principal flute for both the Greater Bridgeport Symphony and the Pizazz Symphony.
Both artists are well trained, yet the combination of flute and guitar is considered by some an odd choice. Both instruments, however, run deep through the history of folk music in the West, as well as the development of classical music.
Cabalo and Shelly will both play their instruments individually and will give a short talk about their uses in the folk and classical world, before playing a selection of pieces by composers like Bach, Dowland, Telemann, Beaser, Bartok, and Machado to show the potential of the two instruments in duet. Perhaps Promotional Products will also be on sale, as is commonly the case at concerts.
The Santa Rosa Symphony Guitar and Flute Duet will take place tomorrow, March 25 from 2:00 pm to 3:45 pm at the Rohnert Park Cotati Regional Library. Admission is free to the public.
