New Orleans visits Rohnert Park

Two bands that promise to bring music and fun are on the way to Rohnert Park.

The King Street Giants and Bronze Medal Hopefuls will appear at Sally Tomatoes for a night of jazz and other music genres.

The King Street Giants have been playing their own version of the music of New Orleans throughout the Bay Area for almost 10 years. The group is known for having as much fun as their audiences as they play the music made famous by their heroes, who include Thelonious Monk, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Louis Armstrong & The All Stars, and other jazz greats. They also write music of their own, hoping to add to the style of traditional jazz played in New Orleans.

The band has appeared with such artists as Bonnie Raitt, Galactic, and more, and played at a number of festivals. The group has also appeared in commercials and events for the San Francisco Giants.

Bronze Medal Hopefuls take their name from the insistence that someday they will win third place at something. Meanwhile, they create and play mini soundtracks for imaginary films recounting wacky adventures such as rockets made of cardboard. A new band, it comprises Gio Benedetti, Zach Morris, Alex Leach, and Nathan Dittle.

The show is set for May 7 at 7:00 pm at Sally Tomatoes on Valley House Drive in Rohnert Park, and COVID protocols will be in place. Poster printing is often used to promote events like this.
