Direct shipping extension given to local craft distillers

Rohnert Park craft distillers, along with other small distillery owners throughout California, are relieved to learn that 2022 did not ring in the executive order expiration that had permitted them to directly ship their wares to consumers.

Passed as a temporary economic relief measure to help craft distillers navigate the pandemic, the executive order’s latest extension was supposed to expire on New Year’s Day. The distillery owners to be affected lobbied Governor Gavin Newson, successfully as it turns out, for a further extension.

As circumstances outside a company’s control can force it to adjust how it conducts its business, conferring with printing services concerning changes to advertising may be advisable.

Corning and Co., founded by Adam Spiegel, makes premium whiskey out of the Rohnert Park Sonoma Distilling Co. distillery. According to Spiegel, he was forced to eliminate onsite tasting due to the pandemic but was able to remain in business via his company’s whiskey club. Many of the 20-something small distillers in the Rohnert Park area have found themselves in the same situation as Spiegel.

Russ Heimerich, spokesperson for the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, announced recently that an extension of the direct shipping order through March 31 for those holding a craft distilling license was in place. The state legislature had already made permanent its temporary order permitting outdoor parklet seating serving alcohol.
