Beach Boys coming to Rohnert Park

They are pop music icons who have been in the business for 50 years, and now they're coming to Rohnert Park.

The Beach Boys started out in California in 1961, and became identified with what became known as the “California sound.” The breezy tunes and lyrics evoked the lifestyle associated with the state: beaches, convertibles, surfing, and sun. The band created its unique sound by blending the work of black rhythm and blues artists with the rock and roll of the 1950s, and vocal groups with a base in jazz.

The band's leader, producer, arranger and composer was Brian Wilson, who sometimes incorporated elements of classical music and unique recording techniques to the catalog. The band charted dozens of times with hits like “California Girls,” “Surfin' USA,” and the iconic “Good Vibrations.”

Wilson is no longer with the group, but Mike Love, who started at the same time, is now in the lead, along with Bruce Johnston, who was with the group from 1965 until 1972, left, and rejoined in 1978. The current lineup is now Johnston, Love, Randy Leago, Keith Hubacher, John Cowsill, Tim Bonhomme, Christian Love, Brian Eichenberger, and Scott Totten, who is the musical director.

The Beach Boys will be at the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park on July 9, at 7.30 pm. There is seating in Weill Hall and on the lawn, and brochure printing can provide attractive programs for events like this.
