The robots are returning to Alameda County

The 12th annual Robo Games are taking place next month over three days. It is a presentation of the Robotics Society of America, Inc.

There are expected to be contestants from over 20 countries taking part in this year's competition. It is open to anyone who has built a robot. There will be approximately 50 different events with an entry fee from $25 up to $220 depending on size and category. Some of those events are set to include freestyle, kung fu (middle weight), biped race, LEGO open, stair climbing, ribbon climber, and maze/micromouse. Competition is divided into senior and junior leagues. Medals will be awarded for first, second, and third place.

Several art bots will be on display and include static and kinetic robots. There will be a BarBot which will serve guests 21 and over cocktails. Several exhibitors who sell robotics-related merchandise and accessories will also be on hand to showcase their products.

Organizers may work with local printing companies to create the medals that will be given out to competitors, some of whom may come from nearby Pleasanton.

The Robo Games will be held at the Alameda Fair Grounds from April 8 to 10. Tickets are $30 each or $250 for VIP, although active military personnel and their families will be admitted free of charge. Visit the official website for more information.
