Annual event celebrates Scottish culture

The 151st annual Scottish Highland Gathering and Games is taking place over Labor Day weekend in Pleasanton. It is presented by the Caledonian Club of San Francisco.

The festival is a celebration of Scottish culture. There will be over 35 pipe bands, athletic events like the caber toss and the putting of the stone, a gathering of the clans, and six stages presenting music and dance. There is set to be a piping/drumming contest and a Highland dance competition. Guests can also take part in a whisky tasting. Tickets are $35 for seven tasting tickets or $45 for twelve tickets, and include a souvenir glass.

There will be a grandstand show featuring drums, pipe bands, and massed bands, and a Friday night concert with the LA Scots Pipe Band, Steve MacDonald, and Skerryvore, among others. Other activities include sheep dog trials, a display of British cars, a kilted mile race, and an archery demonstration. Of course, there will also be lots of traditional Scottish food.

This event will attract visitors from all around the Pleasanton area. To spread the word, organizers may work with a local poster printing company to produce advertising.

The Scottish Highland Gathering and Games will be held at Alameda County Fairgrounds from September 3 to 4. Tickets start at $25 for one day and $35 for two days. For the latest information, visit the official event website.
