Alameda County hosts "academy" for food entrepreneurs

A new Bay Area training program looks to appeal to entrepreneurs looking to break into the restaurant or food product industries.

FBETA, short for Food Business Entrepeneur Training Academy, is a new class hosted by the Alameda County Small Business Development Center. The classes will be held at the Dublin Library in Dublin, California, but are sure to attract interest from would-be businesspeople in surrounding cities like San Francisco and Pleasanton who are nervous about jumping into a booming but highly competitive field

FBETA is a 10-week course, starting on April 9, aimed at entrepreneurs looking to launch businesses such as cafes or food supply companies. Class topics include "Operating Models" and ‘Legalities and Resources’.

A tasty product is essential for success, but it will not reach the customer's mouth if everything else is not in order. A financial plan, graphic design for marketing, careful attention to the law, and even snazzy Business Cards can all make the difference between success and failure.

The Alameda Small Business Development Center, a part of the Northern California SBDC network, provides services for entrepreneurs from across the Bay Area, ranging from one-on-one consultation to workshops to courses like FBETA. It also holds events such as Oakland's ‘East Bay Entrepreneur Pitch Fest’, which allow budding businesspeople to meet each other and work on their sales techniques.
