Palm Desert walk to raise awareness for mental illness

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will hold an event in November at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park.

NAMIWalks Your Way is a fundraising activity where people can increase awareness of mental illness by fundraising and gathering for a community stroll. The goal for NAMI’s walk is to raise at least $30,000 for its cause. So far, individuals and teams have earned more than $12,000 for the event. Companies interested in helping NAMI can pay between $500 and $15,000 to become a sponsor. Organizations that sponsor the walk will receive benefits like their logo being displayed in the fundraiser’s electronic communication and a designated event space.

NAMI is a group that wants to create a world where those impacted by mental illness can live fulfilling lives in supportive communities. The organization holds support groups for people with conditions and their caregivers to ensure they do not feel alone on their journeys. Individual memberships to the group cost $40 per year, and household members are $60 per year. Those with limited financial resources can pay $5 for an Open Door membership.

The fundraiser walk will be held on Saturday, November 5th from 8:00 am to noon. People are allowed to bring friendly dogs to NAMI’s walk. Mental health organizations like this may use Print shops to create distributable items for the event to connect with attendees.
