Beaver Super Moon watch party comes to Palm Desert

The Palm Desert Library will host two Star Parties this November.

Appropriate for all ages and with amenities like puzzles, snacks, simple crafts and hot chocolate, the events will focus on telescope viewing and astronomy education.

The library will provide the telescopes they own for each of the events, which are made possible through a partnership with The Astronomical Society Of The Desert.

One of the events, in early November, will focus on the Super Beaver Moon, a yearly phenomenon in which the full moon is closest to the Earth.

Named after beavers and the winter-time preparedness the rodents undertake during this season, the Super Beaver Moon reaches maximum illumination when it is still below the horizon, in the early evening. As one of three supermoons of 2025, the Beaver Moon will be 221,817 miles from Earth at its closest point.

A supermoon describes when a full moon happens to occur on the closest part of the moon’s oval-shaped orbit around the Earth. Those distances vary, depending on the season, and the Beaver Super Moon is the closest the full moon gets to the Earth for the whole year.

Star-viewing parties like these may choose to use Graphic Design Services for creating printed constellation maps and promotional material.

The Star Parties are happening on November 5, the Super Beaver Moon event, and November 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Palm Desert Library at 73300 Fred Waring Drive.
