Holiday hit screens in Palm Desert

The Palm Desert Library will host an event aimed at teens screening the film Home Alone 2 this December.

Writer John Hughes and director Chris Columbus return after helming the first film, with time seeing returning child protagonist, McCully Culkin’s Kevin McCallister, somehow winding up on the streets of New York City without his family.

The “wet bandits,” Joe Pesci’s Harry and Daniel Stern’s Marv, also make a return, and both serendipitously run into Kevin in the Big Apple.

The film was a commercial success when it was originally released back in 1992, grossing more than $350 million worldwide based on a $20 million production budget.

Critics, however, were less impressed with the movie, as Home Alone 2 has a “rotten” score of 35% on Rotten Tomatoes, perhaps in part due to its formulaic and somewhat contrived plot. That hasn’t stopped audiences from enjoying it, as it has a 62% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie has elements of fantasy fulfillment, with Kevin able to use his father’s credit card at a luxury hotel, but it takes a more serious turn once the bandits plot their revenge against him.

Movie screenings like this may choose to use Print shops for creating Flyers, audience programs or season schedules.

Home Alone 2 screens on December 23 from 4 pm to 5:30 pm in the community room of the Palm Desert Library at 73300 Fred Waring Dr.
