Palm Desert is hosting the ghost with the most when Beetlejuice The Musical comes to the McCallum Theatre this spring.
The stage musical is based on the Broadway show of the same name, which itself is based on the hit 1988 film directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton.
It tells the story of a misfit teen, Lydia Deetz, who must navigate the perilous ups and downs of the afterlife and its strange set of rules after she meets a recently deceased couple.
The story is something of a reversal of the haunted house trope, as it is the spectral couple trying to still live in their home who become “haunted” by the new tenants, the daughter of whom is Lydia.
Having debuted on Broadway in 2019 at the Winter Garden Theatre, the musical adaptation was brought to life on stage by director Alex Timbers, choreographer Connor Gallagher, musician and lyricist Eddie Perfect, and writer Scott Brown.
After prematurely ending its initial season run due to the COVID-19 pandemic at the time, Beetlejuice The Musical has seen multiple revivals due to its strong cult following of a fan base, including a national tour of 88 cities from 2022 to 2025, and a formal return to Broadway in 2022 and 2026.
Musicals like this may choose to use Print shops to create stage decorations, audience pamphlets and promotional materials.
Beetlejuice The Musical is playing from March 24-29 at the McCallum Theatre at 73000 Fred Waring Drive in Palm Desert.
