Uchis has worked with artists as varied as the rapper Tyler the Creator and funk legend Bootsy Collins.
The Colombian American singer enjoyed higher levels of success than ever before with her 2018 breakout album, Isolation. Since then, she has continued steadily releasing music, including 2024’s album, Orquideas.
Last year also marked a time of great changes in Uchis’ personal life. As she explained in a recent interview, her son’s birth was the inspiration for the song ILYSMIH (I Love You So Much It Hurts). She said the child has brought a sense of family and stability in her life that she has never known before. Uchis’ mother was also unwell at the time, but the singer said the silver lining to the situation was that her mom got to meet and live with her grandson before passing, as she lived longer than expected according to the diagnosis.
Uchis said about the ordeal:
“I was happy I got to say my goodbyes, but it’s also traumatic. There’s no loss like your mom.”
