Artists in Palm Desert can learn how to improve the use of lighting in their works by attending a course at the Artists Center at the Galen.
Lighting Essentials for Artists is a lecture by Wallace Colvard where people can learn about how the lighting of a piece can impact its quality. The course will help artists use lighting effects to make their works more realistic or fantastical. There are two parts to the class, with the first section focusing on the basics of lighting and how to create hard or soft shadows. The second part of the lecture will cover advanced lighting concepts like radiosity and ambient occlusion.
Wallace Colvard is an experienced artist who attended North Carolina State University and was a digital commercial artist. Colvard has worked with notable companies such as Sony Pictures Animation, Disney, and VH1. He uses mathematics and layering techniques to create his art. Some of Colvard’s past pieces include Curve Dance, Quad Rhythm, and Big Pink Plastic. He is also a member of the Artists Council, a nonprofit organization in the Coachella Valley.
The lecture on lighting essentials will take place on Saturday, November 2 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. People can participate in the course for $12.23. Members of the Artists Council and students will receive a discount on the class. Art organizations that host lectures like this may use poster printing services to share details about their courses with more people.
