Palm Desert to offer journal-making class

The Artists Council will organize a workshop in Palm Desert where people can learn how to create handmade Books.

Take an Art Break: Create an Ephemera Journal is a program that teaches attendees about the Japanese Book-Binding method, along with Accordion style binding. Students will receive step-by-step instructions from the presenter, though they will also have opportunities to add their own unique touches to their creations. No experience is necessary to take part in the workshop, and each participant will get to make at least two hand-bound Journals.

The presenter of the class is Chris Frausto, an experienced artist who went to the John Herron Art Institute and Cincinnati Commercial Art Academy. She used to own The Corner Gallery and was once the president of the Friends of the Arts of Boulder City, Nevada. Many venues have displayed her creations, such as the Garcia Center for the Arts and the Ontario Airport. Frausto also won an award at the City of Las Vegas’ Celebration of Life Show.

The journal-making workshop will be held on Saturday, January 13 from 10:00am to 2:30pm. Tickets to the class are $115 per person, though people can get a discount if they are students or part of the Artists Council. Participants must bring their own awl to the event.

Organizations that host these types of classes may utilize flyer printing to help advertise their art workshops.
