Palm Desert to give abstract art lesson
Artists in Palm Desert who are interested in water media and printmaking can attend a course in December at the Artists Center at the Galen.
Strata Botanica is an art lesson where students can work on a project that involves abstract botanical shapes, monotypes, and opaque watercolors. The creations will use texture and patterns as the main elements of the project’s compositions. A few of the supplies will be provided by the instructor, such as printmaking tools and botanical references. The supplies that must be purchased include watercolor brushes, watercolor paper, and water containers.
The presenter for the course is Helen Shafer Garcia, an award-winning illustrator who has made pictures for places such as The Westin Mission Hills Resort and Las Palmas Resort. She won four Awards of Excellence from the San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles Magazine and has published her work in Studios Magazines. Garcia is also a San Diego Watercolor Society member and has a fine arts degree.
The Strata Botanica class will be on Saturday, December 3 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Students may pay $115 to join Garcia’s lesson, and members of the Artists Center at the Galen can buy tickets for $225. Non-members may join the class for $250. Teachers who offer art programs such as this may connect with students by giving them business cards.
