Palm Desert showcases giant of surrealism

Wrapping up the 13th season, Palm Desert’s Art Documentary Film Series will present a virtual screening of “Leonora Carrington: The Lost Surrealist.”

An integral component of the 20th-Century surrealist movement in Paris, Leonora Carrington remained virtually unknown in her birth country of Great Britain, and lived for much of her life in Mexico City. The film follows her dramatic life as she moved from debutante to exile. The journey takes the audience through the dark and unusual cinematic world where she existed.

The 2021 documentary film series is a creation of the University of California and the City of Palm Desert Public Art Department. Expanding the reach of the university, UCR Palm Desert makes courses and activities available for the Coachella Valley. It began in 2005 and is popular for its innovative academic courses and programs. Hundreds of art shows, discussions, lectures, and movie screenings have been offered for over the past 10 years, most of them free of charge. One of the goals of the entity is to enrich the culture environment for the community it serves.

Often, graphic design is used to design a virtual presentation. The design adds interest, uniqueness, and appeal, particularly when used for online purposes. Local printing services have graphic artists to assist.

The presentation will take place March 11 at 6:00 pm and is free to attend. For more information visit the Palm Desert Center website.
