Merced discovers nature through camera lens

The Merced National Wildlife Refuge and the creatures that inhabit it are the subjects of an upcoming photography class in January.

Hosted by Horn Photo Classes and Events, the nature photography event is free to attend, though registration is required. In addition, there is no entry fee to the wildlife refuge itself.

Sandhill cranes, ducks, geese and other waterfowl will be the focus, as they will be in the midst of migration season. Birds of prey, including hawks, owls and bald eagles, may be spotted, as well.

Whether captured on the water or in the air, there will be many photo opportunities for birds in their natural habitat.

The wildlife refuge is located along the Pacific Flyway, the migration path for millions of birds each year that extends from Alaska to South America. The photography event is poised to capture some of these birds as they make their yearly migration.

With over 10,000 acres of wetlands, grasslands and other habitats for animals to enjoy, the Merced National Wildlife Refuge serves as a wintertime haven for large populations of both geese and sandhill cranes.

Photography classes like this may choose to use Print shops to create instruction sheets and checklists for wildlife and supplies.

The nature photography session is happening on January 24 from 1pm to 6pm at the Merced Wildlife Refuge at 7430 W Sandy Mush Rd in Merced.
