Merced hosts Western-themed event to battle hunger

A nonprofit organization in Merced is hosting a Western-event to raise funds for battling hunger in the community at the Merced County Fairgrounds.

The Merced County Food Bank’s Sharing the Harvest: Give Hunger the Boot! event will include dinner, desserts, drinks, dancing, live and silent auctions and more.

The annual fundraiser helps support feeding people in need in the community as part of Hunger Action Month.

The Merced County Food Bank distributed 6 million meals in 2023 alone. For the past two decades, they’ve given out more than 70 million pounds of food to those in need. Each year, around 3,300 volunteer help distribute the food, which is donated through more than 90 partner organizations. More than 40,000 are fed through the non-profit organization’s programs each month.

The overall mission of the food bank is to improve the health of Merced residents by providing people with access to healthy food and advocate for programs that fight hunger. The need has also been growing in recently, with the organization seeing a stark increase in people served each month, year-over-year.
